Monthly News Letter

April 23, 2000

We are digging our way out of the many requests we have had.  Unfortunately we have been swamped, not only with Guardian duties, but also with personal, business and church duties.  As many of you know we have been traveling nearly once per month lately to various locations.  Our most recent trip was to Houston-San Antonio areas.  You may read my write-up of this event on our web site: www.guardian-ministries.org/.

Our next trip will be to Redwood City to visit the “Believers in Christ Church of God” with Jeff Henderson, pastor.  We look forward to seeing many of our Brethren that we have known for the past 20 years and to meet others for the first time.  We plan to be there on May 6 (my birthday) to speak to the church.  The address is:  Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Ave., Redwood City, CA.   A map can be seen on their web site @ http://www.biccog.org/directions/html.  The services begin at 11 a.m.  All are welcome.

Are You Happy?

“Happiness is different things to different people” says the song.  The song goes on to point out events or material things that become “happiness” to people in different occupations or circumstances.  However, all these are EXTERNAL sources of “happiness.”   I believe the song and much of the philosophy around the world has confused “happiness” with temporary enjoyment or fun.

Therefore, people believe, “I would be happy with a new home” or car, or more money, or finding a mate, or having children.  The United States Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal and endowed with inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”  No government can guarantee happiness.  It is reasonable to believe that the U.S. founding fathers did not know what happiness was but they felt a government should guarantee a person’s right to pursue what s/he believed was happiness.

Does the Bible say anything about happiness?  Is the word used in the Scriptures?  If so, how is it used and just what IS happiness?   This time we are offering the first TWO sermons in a series of seven on Happiness. The first sermon in the series will take you through what the Bible says about the subject in general and the Greek word most commonly used to mean “happy.”

Is it possible to be happy and sad at the same time?  How can this be?  Most people think one is only happy when s/he is smiling, laughing, and having a fun time.  But you will learn the great secrets to happiness that can be an anchor to your life from now on. And you will find these secrets to happiness right out of the mouth of our Savior, Jesus Christ as His words are amplified and made plainer by other passages of Scripture.

Not only will this add to your contentment in this world of materialism, but it can enhance your spiritual condition to enter the Kingdom of God!

PLEASE TAKE TIME NOW to fill out the enclosed form and send it in.  One thing that has put us so far behind is trying to fill orders for sermon series when we have used all that were made up.  This has caused us to have to duplicate them by hand and send them out.  Our policy has been that when the current series is no longer available we will not be able to send them out.  So, if you would like these two sermons, please let us know as soon as possible.

IF YOU HAVE EMAIL please be sure to fill in the email address on the response order form enclosed.  We promise not to bombard you with messages or forward you one thing after another.  But, from time to time, you will receive important and updated information and special announcements.  Also, please let us know when you change email addresses.

We send a big THANK YOU to those of you who have shown interest in the work of Guardian Ministries.  We are grateful for  the support you have given without even being asked.  We are well aware that there are many religious non-profit organizations.  We appreciate the many fine comments that have been made about our efforts in GM.  Comments:  “It was well worth the wait to receive the sermon tapes we requested.”  And one gentleman put it like this, “Nobody delivers a sermon like David Antion.”  (I’m aware you can take that two ways but I took it as a compliment.)

If you would like to have the first two sermons on HAPPINESS,  just fill out the form below and return it as soon as possible so we can send your tapes out to you.  Remember to give us your name and address so we can send the tapes you request.

With God’s kind of love,

David L. Antion
