Unity with Christ and the Father
-------------
Because
God the Father and Jesus Christ are one (John 10:30), this unity becomes the
basis of our unity with them (1John 1:3) and with each other (John 17:11).
Remember that the Son does the will of the Father (John 4:34) and has
received the powers even of judgment.
The
Son will obey the Father's will and has received a command from the Father that
concerns His death and resurrections (John 10:18).
Because
the Son obeys we must realize that to remain in Jesus or in the Father we also
must be obedient in a spirit of love (John 15:10; I John 4:12,16).
We
must bear fruit (John 15:5) and we must struggle against the world's sinful ways
(I John 2:16-17).
It
is the unity of the Father and Son and our unity with them that prevents anyone
or anything from snatching us away from their love.
"For
I am convinced that neither death, no life, no angels, nor principalities, nor
things present, nor things to come, nor powers, no height, nor depth, nor any
other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is
in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom. 8:38-39 NASV).
God's
love is in Christ. We abide in His love. We
abide in both the Father and the Son. And
as long as we choose to abide in the Father and the Son no person or power can
take us away from them. Praise be
to God for His everlasting love and commitment to us.
