SABBATH THOUGHTS FOR YOUR WEEK

We Worship The Living God

---------------------------

There are many religions in the world. There are many views of God even in the world of the Judeo-Christian religions. But in the Bible we have a specific view -- that the God of the Bible is a living and active Being.

When Elijah withstood the prophets of Baal, Elijah knew he was worshipping the Living God. He asked that the prophets of Baal and Asherah call upon their God and He would call on the YHWH. The One to answer by fire would be God. When the prophets of Baal cried out, Elijah taunted them saying that maybe their god was asleep because he did not answer. Or maybe he was off on a trip somewhere and could not hear. They screamed louder and even gashed their bodies to inflict pain in order to scream even louder.

When it was Elijah's turn, he asked that the sacrifice be soaked with water and had them dump water on every thing to be sure the wood was soaked and everything to be sacrificed drowned in water. Then God answered. Fire came down from heaven and burnt the sacrifice and licked up all the water turning it into steam in front of them all.

The Living God can hear. He can act. He can see. He can deliver.

The account of Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego (Daniel 3) demonstrates the power of the Eternal Living God to save and deliver those who obey and are faithful to Him.

But, you say, I know that our God is the Living God and I believe He can save, deliver, hear and see. Brethren, if we believe that, do we act like we believe that? Do we fear to do evil knowing we are in plain sight of that most Holy Living God and His Son, our ever living Savior??

Sometimes, we act like we are worshipping an idol that cannot see, that cannot hear, and that cannot act. We conduct our lives as if we were worshipping a pagan idol that cannot hear, see, or act.

Think about it. Do you really believe in the Living God?? Do you believe He hears you, sees you and will deliver you according to His will? But most of all do you believe that He will judge you and call you to give account for your actions and words??

Let us heed this warning, "And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but al things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do" (Heb. 4:13 NASV).
